...and baby makes three.
What a day! Today’s the day our third child was born.
We started out by waking to a panicked son at 3:45am who noticed there was a large pillow in place of his mother’s normal sleeping location. He shook me awake. “Dad? Where’s momma!?”
I woke with a start, immediately sensing that something was unusual. I called out into the darkness for my wife. My terrible vision adjusted to the light and I could see the fuzzy image of my pregnant wife moving to and fro very quickly as she loaded items into bags.
“I don’t think you’re going to work today,” she announced.
Women’s intuition, perhaps? Maybe. I laid there and turned that statement over in my head several times. I looked at the watch. It was 3:45am. I immediately congratulated myself for going to bed earlier than usual, but now was time for action. I shot out of bed and hit the shower for a quick wash.
At 4:30am we were departing for the hospital. The contractions were 5 minutes apart. Once we arrived and were placed in a labor/delivery room, the nurse announced that they would watch her for a few hours and determine if she really was going into labor.
Within three hours it was pretty clear. She went from 2.5cm dilation to 6cm and was crying out for the epidural. She got hit with that and it was smooth sailing the rest of the day (as far as the pain goes).
After what seemed like less than 10 pushes, our baby daughter was born at 11:17am. She was quite feisty once she came out and had a lot to say. I got the feistiness on video, so perhaps one day we can translate what she said.
In the meantime... she was given the name that we chose back on the 14th. I hesitate to post it here publicly since this is a public site, so if you don’t know it, please email and I’ll take care of that information for you :)
Momma and baby are doing well. Dad and son and other daughter are also well. Dad and son are home getting some sleep and getting ready for son’s soccer game tomorrow morning. The new baby should be back home sometime on Sunday.
All is right with the world. Very, very right.
